Goodsprings

Tucked into the Spring Mountains, about seven miles west of Jean on State Route 161, is the former mining town of Goodsprings. The sleepy hamlet traces its beginnings to the 1860s, when it was part of a short-lived boom, and hasn't changed much in the last half century.

Today, Goodsprings remains an intriguing reminder of Southern Nevada's past - its unpaved streets and sagebrush hills in sharp contrast with the attractions and gleaming towers in nearby Las Vegas. The most prominent survivor from the town's heyday is the Pioneer Saloon, erected in 1913, which claims to be the oldest and largest stamped metal building (its walls were pressed to resemble bricks) in the country. Check out the saloon's beautiful cherrywood backbar, built in the 1860s, and the display of newspaper clippings that tell the town's history.

Jean

Jean, which sits 34 miles south of Las Vegas on Interstate 15, is home to the Nevada Landing and its sister property, the Gold Strike Hotel. Interstate travelers will also find an official Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority Welcome Center in Jean. The center has informational displays, brochures, and other materials.

Prim

Located on the Nevada-California border, Primm not only offers the first - and last - taste of gaming to motorists traveling Interstate 15, it also is the home of the Desperado roller coaster.

A ride on Desperado takes passengers down a 225-foot drop at speeds of nearly 80 mph. Before the three-minute thrill ride concludes, passengers are thrust through several other twists and turns ‚ including a 155-foot, gut-wrenching spiral drop. This is not a ride for the timid.

Primm is 43 miles south of Las Vegas. Its main attractions are the properties of Primm Valley Resorts, which include an RV village and three hotel-casinos: Whiskey Pete's, Buffalo Bill's, and Primm Valley Resort. Together they offer an abundance of amenities with 2,676 guest rooms and suites, themed attractions, casino action, and 11 restaurants that include buffets, coffee shops, steak house, gourmet room, and Mexican and Italian restaurants. For shoppers, the Fashion Outlet Las Vegas has approximately 100 retail stores.

The Primm Valley Golf Club offers a choice of two 18-hole courses, both designed by Tom Fazio. The Lakes course includes four lakes, large pine trees, and rolling fairways. The Desert course features palm trees, cacti, and native vegetation.
